Have you ever said you were going to do something like start an intense diet to lose weight or train harder than ever before to get strong and pain-free? Then about two weeks later, that fervor and excitement has worn off and you are back to your previous habits. I find this happens often when people have not really jumped “all in” to the path towards their goal.
A lack of full commitment can absolutely sabotage your effectiveness in the long run. I believe this is one of the reasons that people often see substantial change during 90 day fitness challenges. It is a short enough time that people can be “all in” without being overwhelmed by the thought of doing something indefinitely. The downside is that too often people regress back to their old habits after the challenge is over…but we can save that topic for another day. I have a pretty solid rant inside of me regarding most “quick fix” sales pitches ha 😉
For today, I want to share with you one of my favorite methods for creating a shift in life. I have used this with incredible success at pivotal times in my life…when I needed to make a big decision between two vastly different options, when I had a new path that was foreign and intimidating, and even trying to get a greater result out of a current endeavor.
Being fully committed to something gives a strength and resilience that is absent when a person is only partially devoted.
Meaningful coincidences or “divine confirmations” as I have heard them called can be applied to any area of life for decision making and “shift-creating”. What I want you to do this week is to go TREASURE HUNTING. What I mean by that is to choose a topic (see below) and look for those meaningful coincidences for a pre-determined period of time…maybe til Sunday night. The best method is to record them as you go then look back at them at the end of each night. It is amazing how much insight can be gained throughout a day if you really have your eyes open and are actively looking for it.
Like I said, you can apply this to any part of life. It is great for big decisions and helping sort out conflicted thoughts. Since we are focusing on THINK. MOVE. EAT, I want to use this to cause a shift in your health and fitness that has never been achieved before. As you know, one of my goals with BTG is to give the easiest-to-apply tips and tools that yield the greatest results. This changes health and fitness from an overwhelming endeavor to a series of simple, manageable adjustments.
Maybe your goals look like:
- Eat more organic green veggies
- Drink lots of water daily
- Train at MAX effort at least twice per week
- Switch to grass-fed beef and free-range chicken
- Remove all negatives from your self-talk
Without a passionate shift and a true commitment, it is extremely difficult to stay on track with challenging tasks. So for this week I want you to pick the next target habit that you would like to acquire. Then go on a treasure hunt for meaningful coincidences (divine confirmations) regarding that topic.
Some areas you might find those confirmations are:
- Friends sharing their own experiences (successes and failures)
- Marketing ads
Basically you are looking for anything that catches your eye. If it sparks something in your heart and mind enough to make you stop and wonder if it applies to you, it probably does. Then, once you have accrued your confirmations affirming the importance of your desired goal/path, you can make a passionate commitment and go “all in” towards achieving it!
I used this method a few years back when I was prayerfully considering moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time. I actually woke up early one morning hearing the song that has the lyrics, “California…California…here we come.” Then I happened to meet someone just around town who was living in South Africa. He was visiting Arizona on vacation. We randomly started talking, and I mentioned that I liked acting. He encouraged me to move to LA (I didn’t tell him I was considering that) and gave me advice on how to do that.
Additionally there were numerous other “divine confirmations” like those that helped me make my decision. This has always been a blast for me and I think it is especially cool because it takes a potentially stressful situation and makes it into an adventure. Awesome!
