Hi everyone! Welcome to Iron Will Sports and Fitness.
For any of you that I haven’t met yet, my name is “Iron Will” Roberts and one of my main goals as a trainer is to help you get to the point where you are truly (and permanently) “creating fitness as a lifestyle”. It is not enough to just workout. You have to reshape your life as a whole. Every so often, I will be sending you quick, easy to apply tips and tools to upgrade your overall level of activity, nutrition and your mindset.
We will be covering the topics of: THINK. MOVE. EAT. To me, that is life. You create an image in your mind and you move towards it. Then you eat and refuel so you can do it over and over again for a lifetime.
We are going to start with “THINK”…your mindset. This is the most important and most overlooked component of health, movement and overall well-being. A great way to get your mindset in a good place is write and then, re-write your ideal vision of your health and fitness. It can be anything you want. Mine would sound something like “I perform like a professional athlete and I look like a super hero every day”. Or it could include fitting into a pair of jeans you haven’t worn in years…or finishing a hike you’ve never been able to finish before…or having energy all day long.
Just a couple sentences about how your ideal fitness would look. Once you have written your vision, leave it alone for a day or so and just think. Then come back to it and re-write it. It might be exactly the same or you might want to change it a little (or a lot). Over time, that vision or “mental picture of success” will probably change and adapt and grow.
VISION = ENDURANCE
I hosted a 365 Day Pushup Challenge a while back (starting with 1 pushup on January 1st and increasing 1 rep everyday for a year). Between you and me, there were days that I didn’t want to do those pushups. But before I ever began the challenge, I created a very powerful “vision” of success in my mind about reaching this goal and what it would feel like to do something that I had never done before. Having this passionate image in my mind made it possible to persevere even when I didn’t really want to.
“Your starting place determines your outcome” -Graham Cooke
Studies show that people are far more likely to reach their goals if they simply write them down…even if they never look at them again! The likelihood increases if you look at them (and re-write them) often and it goes up even more if you create accountability by telling a friend. Writing goals and visions is a blast and makes you incredibly more efficient and effective. Enjoy this process and feel free to share them with me so we can all support each other. It is going to be a legendary year!
Until next time, be strong and courageous!
